The UfM Secretariat is the intergovernmental Euro-Mediterranean platform where political decisions are implemented and where concrete regional and subregional projects are developed with the support of an extensive network of partners, including governments, international organisations, financial institutions, civil society organisations, universities, foundations and the private sector.
Within the framework of the Member States’ priorities, the Secretariat works with all Euro-Mediterranean partners and stakeholders to foster synergies, coordinating and acting as a bridge to implement a common agenda, make project ideas become realities and maximise the impact of the regional initiatives.
The UfM Secretariat is in a unique position to facilitate synergies between Europe, Africa and the Middle East for new cooperation ideas and initiatives in the Mediterranean region. Solid partnerships with key institutions and a continuous exchange of ideas and best practices with key actors from the North and South of the Mediterranean as well as from other regions are essential for the successful implementation of the activities supported by the Secretariat.

The UfM Secretariat acts as a catalyst of projects, working alongside their promoters throughout the entire project cycle from project structuring and development, including financial planning and fund-raising, to project launch, implementation and monitoring.
The UfM Secretariat works jointly with the promoter in securing the necessary funds to launch a project. Since the Secretariat is not a financial institution and does not grant loans or finance projects directly, its added value lies in the support it extends to promoters in developing financing plans to secure funds, establishing a solid network of partners among donors, financial institutions and private sponsors and approaching potential partners.
