11th Union for the Mediterranean Trade Ministerial
10 November 2020. The 11th Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Trade Ministerial Conference will take place on 10 November 2020 by videoconference and will be co-chaired by the EU and Jordanian UfM co-presidencies and with the participation of Minister from UfM Member States.
The main objective of the conference is to push forward the regional trade process, in parallel to further developing bilateral trade relations between the EU and other UfM partners. The Trade Ministerial Conference will highlight the technical work over the last two years, and will provide political impetus and more sustained cooperation in several areas to promote and facilitate regional trade. A vibrant regional trade can notably play a vital role in post-COVID recovery in the EU and the broader Euro-Mediterranean region.
Among others topics, the meeting will deal with free trade agreements and trade barriers, modernisation and negotiations of trade agreements, multilateral trading system and sustainable development and the fight against Intellectual Property piracy and counterfeiting. The Ministerial meeting takes place under the framework of the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona Process, the initiative that laid the foundations for a new Euro-Mediterranean partnership and led to the creation of the UfM.
The last UfM Trade Ministerial Conference took place on 19 March 2018 under joint EU and Jordanian co-presidency and the Declaration contained agreed objectives and priorities on how to enhance trade relations between UfM Member States.
