The UfM Regional Platform on Trade and Investment convenes its fourth meeting
- The UfM Regional Platform on Trade and Investment convened its fourth meeting by videoconference to discuss areas of priority ahead of the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the UfM Trade Ministers in October 2023 in Spain.
19 December 2022. The Member States of the Union for the Mediterranean held today the fourth meeting of the UfM Regional Platform on Trade and Investment in an online format. During the meeting, they discussed priorities under three main headline topics of Sustainable Trade, Sustainable Investment and Regional Integration.
The meeting of the Platform was chaired by the UfM Co-Presidency; the European Commission (DG TRADE) and Jordan (Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply), and the discussions focused on:
- Sustainable Trade and Investment: participants discussed green and digital transition on the basis of presentations delivered by the European Commission.
The UfM Secretariat debriefed the participants on the fourth edition of the UfM Trade and Investment Forum, hosted by Türkiye in Istanbul on 4 November 2022, which focused on the major trends and developments regionally and globally, through three interrelated themes, namely: 1) Making trade work for a green transition, 2) Making regional value chains work for emerging economies, 3) Making intraregional trade act as a cushion against global disruptions
- Regional Integration: The International Labour Organization (ILO) presented their report “The nexus between trade, investment and employment. A regional overview”.
Jordan presented the main findings of the ILO Country Report on Jordan and the new investment law and its expected impact on employment.
The Platform started discussing the first draft of the Ministerial Declaration in view of the 12th UfM Ministerial Meeting on Trade in October 2023.
The UfM Member States agreed to hold the next meeting of the UfM Regional Platform on Trade and Investment during the first half of 2023.
