Litter-free is the way to be
Marine litter — and marine plastic pollution in particular — is a major threat due to its significant environmental, economic, social, political and cul-tural implications. Marine litter negatively impacts coastal and marine ecosystems and the ser-vices they provide, ultimately affecting people’s livelihoods and well-being. Marine plastic pol-lution is not just an oceans’ pollution issue. It is an air pollution and climate issue too as plastic — admittedly an indispensable material of todays’ societies — contributes to greenhouse gas emis-sions at every stage of its lifecycle, from its produc-tion to its refining and up to the way it is managed as a waste product.
