Mediterranean Economic Week – Marseille
Marseille, 4-7 November 2015
The 9th edition of the Mediterranean Economic Week will take place from Wednesday, 4 November to Saturday, 7 November 2015 at the Villa Méditerranée, in Marseille.
This year’s edition will focus on “Cities and Territories, levers of economic development in Mediterranean”.
Between 1970 and 2000, the urban population of Mediterranean countries grew from 154 million to 274 million, representing 64% of the total population. The latest forecasts predict a total urban population of 75% (378 million) in 2025.
Mediterranean countries are increasingly confronted with issues associated with urbanisation. Cities are at the heart of development policies and play a key role in the economic vitality of an area and its attractiveness.
It is now vital for cities to come together around “unifying projects” to help them establish themselves as players, by mobilising citizens, institutions and public/private partners. It is essential to implement large structuring projects to attract investors and promote growth.
The Mediterranean Economic Week will focus on these topics.
