Call for applications: Research to Business Programme
Higher Education & Research
Barcelona, 21 May 2026. Applications are now open for the first cohort of the Research to Business (R2B) Programme, a 24-month regional initiative supporting applied research teams across the Mediterranean in transforming scientific knowledge and discoveries into market-ready innovations.
Initiated by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), in partnership with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), and aligned with the UfM Research and Innovation agenda and the 2022 UfM Ministerial Declaration on Research and Innovation, the programme is led by Berytech, in partnership with ANIMA Investment Network and the University of Barcelona.
The programme responds to a shared regional challenge: while universities and research institutions across the Mediterranean generate innovative solutions, many applied research projects face barriers in moving from the laboratory to the market. The R2B Programme provides selected teams with structured commercialisation support, tailored mentoring, expert guidance, regional visibility and connections with industry, investors and innovation stakeholders.
Applications are open to applied research teams affiliated with universities or research institutions, including academic researchers, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and other contributors involved in research innovation projects. Projects should have a clearly defined application, initial validation or proof of concept, and strong potential for commercialisation and real-world deployment.
The programme targets Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, Mauritania, Algeria and Syria.
Applications are open until 1 June 2026.
