A Parliamentary Delegation from Sweden visits the UfM
Barcelona, 1st October. A Parliamentary Delegation from Sweden visited today the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, in Barcelona. During the working visit, they held talks with Secretary General Sijilmassi and some experts from the six priority areas of the UfM.
The meeting was an opportunity for both to identify areas of mutual interest as well as to develop concrete ways of collaboration between the Parliamentary Assembly of the UfM and the UfM Secretariat, thus providing political impetus to projects through targeted support. Representatives from the Swedish delegation stressed on the strategic importance of the Mediterranean region for Sweden and both parties agreed on the value added that the UfM Secretariat represents as promoter of regional integration through concrete and meaningful projects.
As Sweden is an important member of the UfM, this meeting was also an occasion to talk about mechanisms and tools that could raise UfM’s awareness among a number of Swedish actors, such as the private sector, young generations, researchers, students and civil society, thus highlighting the importance of working closer with the southern Mediterranean countries.
