- The European House – Ambrosetti carried out the Cohesion Policy and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan with the Italian Ministry for European Affairs, in the Southern Italy region. This forum is the second edition of Verso Sud, an international summit on the growth potentials for Southern Italy within the framework of the opportunities presented by the Mediterranean Sea.
- In the panel titled “The Mediterranean Scenario”, UfM Secretary General discussed the challenges and opportunities present in the Mediterranean region and exposed possible projects involving the South more thoroughly.
19-20 May 2023, Sorrento – Aimed at promoting a new perspective and paradigm shift for Italy, the South region, and the countries of the two shores of the Mediterranean, the second edition of Vero Sud organized by the European House – Ambrosetti and held in Sorrento invited the UfM Secretary General. The event counted with leading representatives of the Italian government and institutions, as well as from over twenty countries in the region. Furthermore, private partners from several sectors also attended this regional gathering.
More specifically, Secretary General Nasser Kamel joined the panel titled “The Mediterranean Scenario”. This gave him the opportunity to present the current challenges faced by the region and the opportunities they present, most notably the greater integration between Southern Mediterranean countries and the European Union at large. He concluded by firmly contending that “at this key moment, Mediterranean cooperation is more necessary than ever”.
The UfM Secretary General also held a meeting with stakeholders and the Ambrosetti house managing partners, in which he proposed to discuss possible projects involving more actively the South.
After the success of Verso Sud meeting last year and taking stock of this year’s preliminary results, the UfM Secretariat considers that there is interest in organizing a similar multilateral forum in southern countries, starting with Egypt. A possible link to the annual UfM Business Forum or another sector of interest could also be discussed.
