28-29 April 2018, Cairo. The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) participated in the 5th Summit of Presidents of Parliament and the 14th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the UfM (PA-UfM), which took  place in Cairo on 28-29 April. The annual gathering of the 280 members of the Parliamentary Assembly, that marks the end of the Egyptian Presidency, focused its debates on the important topic of “Counter-terrorism in the Euro-Mediterranean region”, and on the ways Parliamentarians of the three shores of the Mediterranean can contribute to the prevention of violent extremism that leads to terrorism. Ljubljana, 11th April, 2018. Ljubljana has hosted the Creative Forum Ljubljana, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in collaboration with the Union for the Mediterranean. The conference was focused on the role of the creative sector in modern society, with particular emphasis on opportunities in the Western Balkans and the southern Mediterranean. The event brought together creative people from EU member states, the southern Mediterranean and the Western Balkans. World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about taking action to tackle water-related issues. This year’s theme explores the need to preserve nature to overcome water challenges such as environmental damage, water pollution and water scarcity. The Mediterranean region is one of the most water-scarce areas in the world and freshwater, together with the pollution of the existing resources, has reached alarming levels, with more than more than 180 million people being considered water poor and an additional 60 million facing water stress.   بروكسل، 19 مارس 2018  اجتمعت الدول الثلاث والأربعون أعضاء الاتحاد من أجل المتوسط اليوم في بروكسل في الاجتماع الوزاري العاشر حول التجارة، حيث أعطوا دفعة جديدة للتكامل الاقتصادي في المنطقة الأورومتوسطية. انعقد المؤتمر تحت رعاية الرئاسة المشتركة للاتحاد من أجل المتوسط ممثلة في المفوضة الأوروبية للتجارة، السيدة سيسيليا مالمستروم، ووزير التجارة والصناعة والتموين الأردني، السيد يعرب القضاة، بحضور السيد خورخي بوريجو، القائم بأعمال الأمين العام للاتحاد من اجل المتوسط. يظل مستوى التكامل الاقتصادي الإقليمي في المنطقة الأور ومتوسطية بين أقل المعدلات في العالم. مرت ثماني سنوات على آخر اجتماع وزاري في عام 2010 وفي الوقت نفسه تغيرت المنطقة الأورو-متوسطية… إقرأ المزيد

Plácido Plaza, received at the CIHEAM’s Headquarters in Paris, Mr. Saïd Bhira the Special Counsellor to the Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean on Higher Education and Research. يُشكّل النساء والشباب أكثر من نصف سكان المنطقة الأورومتوسطية، وهم يمثلون بذلك قيمة عظيمة للاستقرار والتنمية. وفقا لأحدث الدراسات، إذا تساوت نسبة المشاركة في سوق العمل بين المرأة والرجل، سوف يرتفع الناتج المحلي الإجمالي للمنطقة بنسبة تصل إلى 47% على مدى العقد التالي. مما يعني أنّ المنطقة قد تحقق اثر اقتصادي يضاهي 490 مليار يورو سنويًا.  متابعةً للاجتماع الوزاري الأخير للاتحاد من أجل المتوسط حول “تعزيز دور المرأة في المجتمع”، سوف يشهد عام 2018 انطلاقة لمشروعات إقليمية جديدة وكذلك المؤتمر الإقليمي الرابع حول تمكين المرأة. يأتي هذا المؤتمر الذي سيعقد 11-10 أكتوبر في مدينة لشبونة، بدعمٍ من الاتحاد من أجل… إقرأ المزيد
