5th Annual Conference on Water Finance and Investment in the framework of 7th Cairo Water Week and 9th Africa Water Week

14-15 October 2024, Cairo. This is the Main Annual Event on Water Finance in the region. The Conference is co-convened by the Union for the Mediterranean, the European Union and the African Development Bank.

The overall objective of the annual conferences is to support progress towards achieving water security in the Mediterranean and Africa by providing a high-visibility platform for policymakers and stakeholders to discuss how to further improve water finance and investment policies.

The specific objectives of the 2024 Conference are:

• To seek high-level guidance for adopting a strategic approach to WASH finance and investment.
• To identify the opportunities for investing in WASH while providing the largest impact.
• To explore the scope for generating more internal resources in the WASH sector while ensuring affordability of WASH services.
• To identify the benefits and challenges of developing WASH finance strategies, and the role of public finance.

One of the main outputs is the policy brief, serves to inform and support policy reforms in the area of water finance and investment to support achievement of global, regional and national water goals. Last year’s conference revolved around the WEFE Nexus, it focused on finance and investment to apply the water-energy-food-environment (WEFE) nexus approach.
