La Valletta, 13 October 2025. Malta is hosting the UfM High Level Policy Conference on “Exploring the Future of Jobs and Skills in the Mediterranean region”, which will be held on 13 October 2025.
This conference, organised under the auspices of the Maltese Ministry for Home Affairs, Security and Employment in collaboration with the European Commission and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), will provide an invaluable platform to deliberate on the rapidly evolving landscape of employment and skills within the Mediterranean region. At a time of significant technological advancement, it is essential to address the challenges and seize the opportunities that these developments present.
The conference will bring together Ministers from UfM Member States, senior policymakers, and experts from across sectors. The discussions will take place in two sessions, focused on future of jobs and future of skills, and will focus on sharing best practices, fostering open dialogue, and exploring strategic interventions to strengthen labour market resilience and dynamism in the Mediterranean.
19th UfM Regional Platform on Employment and Labour
National focal points from the Member States of the Union for the Mediterranean together with the Social Partners will convene for the 19th meeting of the UfM Regional Platform on Employment and Labour in Valletta, Malta, a key meeting to prepare for the next UfM Action Plan on Employment and Labour 2025-2028.
The participants will take stock of the concluded Roadmap (2022-2025) implementing the Declaration of the 5th UfM Ministerial on Employment and Labour that took place in Marrakech on 18 May 2022. In dedicated sessions, they will be introduced to the charter emanating from the Community of Practice (CoP) on Youth Employment in the Southern Mediterranean and debriefed on the state of play of the second cohort of the Community of Practice (CoP) Supporting Transition from Education to Employment Readiness (STEER).
The UfM Member States will discuss the final cross-country report and the Online Tracking Tool being developed to store and visualize collected information and trends both thematically and geographically.
A dedicated session will focus on preparing the UfM Action Plan on Employment and Labour and its implementing Roadmap of activities.
The Regional Platform on Employment and Labour meets twice per year, chaired by the UfM Co-Presidency: the European Commission (DG EMPL) and Jordan (Ministry of Labour) and brings together representatives from employment and labour ministries and agencies from the UfM Member States as well as representatives from European institutions/agencies, international organisations and experts.
