Since its inception, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) has emphasized and promoted the role of science in its dialogue between experts, governments and diplomats. In 2022, the UfM Ministers of Research and innovation approved the First UfM Ministerial conference on Research and Innovation (Paris, 27 June 2022), reinforcing the role of research cooperation and innovation in sustainable development of the Mediterranean. As global challenges from climate change, biodiversity loss, food and energy security, global health and economic development intensify, awareness on how science may contribute to addressing them is further needed. UfM’s response to that is captured in the UfM Research and Innovation Roadmaps on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Health, and will be promoted in further supporting the cooperation between scientists and policy makers, as well as contributing to capacity building in the region.
The UfM and the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) in Slovenia, are organising two webinars dedicated to the promotion of science diplomacy for sustainable development in the Mediterranean.
