Barcelona, 1–2 December 2025 – The UfM, with the support of the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), organized a Regional Workshop on the revised Regional Convention on pan-Euro-Mediterranean Rules of Origin (PEM Convention) in Barcelona, on 1–2 December 2025, in close cooperation with the European Commission (DG TRADE and DG TAXUD). 2-3 December 2025, Alexandria, Egypt – The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), in collaboration with the MedNC network and the HOMERe programme, and with the support of the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) and the European Commission (DG EMPL), convened a two-day event in Alexandria. On 2 December, internal governance meetings for MedNC and HOMERe were held at the Von Gerber House, headquarters of the Anna Lindh Foundation. Barcelona, 10 December 2025. The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the MEDPorts Association today launched the Study on Governance Models of Mediterranean Ports at the Port of Barcelona, presenting the first comprehensive comparative overview of how ports across 16 Mediterranean countries are governed and organised. The study compiles and systematises data on port ownership structures, regulatory frameworks and operational responsibilities. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Process and the adoption of a new vision by the UfM Member States, the 2025 UfM Trade and Investment Forum is the Forum’s 7th edition in seven successive years, attesting to the emphasis the UfM places on facilitating trade and promoting investment to foster economic development and integration in the region. The Mediterranean is a climate hotspot, warming about 20% faster than the global average, and it is among the most plastic‑polluted seas worldwide. One third of the population lives in coastal areas, where sea levels rise by 2.8 mm per year. Without accelerated climate action, up to 20 million people could face permanent displacement by 2100.
