•The 1st edition of the UfM Youth Model stimulation programme was launched under the title “DIA/Med – Les Dialogues pour la Méditerranée de Barcelone”. The UfM Secretariat’s projects and initiatives specifically addressing women’s empowerment and gender equality benefit more than 50,000 women in 20 Euro-Mediterranean countries. Additionally, a gender mainstreaming policy is always ensured in all UfM projects. The region could increase its per capita GDP by 25%, by enabling women’s equal participation in public life and the labour market. The Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Fathallah Sijilmassi, and the President of the Women for Africa Foundation, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, signed a collaboration agreement to work on projects and joint activities for the promotion of women’s empowerment in the Mediterranean.
