The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean expresses its deepest emotion following the tragedy that has once more claimed the lives of hundreds of human beings in the Mediterranean Sea, and extends its condolences to the families of the victims. The Senior Officials of the Union for the Mediterranean member states, responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of the UfM, will meet in Jordan by the end of May 2015. This was announced at the UfM Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) held last March 31st in Brussels. Jordan assumes the southern co-presidency of the UfM since June 2012, while the European Union assumed the permanent northern co-presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean in February 2012.
