The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean participated in the First Conference of Ministers in charge of Scientific Research in the Western Mediterranean held in Rabat on 19th and 20th September 2013. Tunis, 17th September, 2013. Marylise Lebranchu, Minister for State Reform, Decentralisation and Public Service, was in Tunis today to take part in the Mediterranean Economic Conference on “Employment and Territorial Development”, arranged by the Tunisian government and Union for the Mediterranean (UpM). In her speech the Minister put forward the major outlines of the decentralisation bill currently being debated in Parliament and stressed its economic scale. 17 September, 2013. Following a recent relocation to Barcelona, the Global Water Operator’s Partnership Alliance (GWOPA) hosted a coordination meeting on water operator partnerships in Spain. A number of local, national and international experts were gathered at the headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean to share past experiences and identify synergies between institutions in working sessions over one and a half days (16-17 September). Barcelona, 6 September, 2013. The new Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation was launched on 6 September 2013 in Barcelona, Spain, with the aim of supporting women of the Euro-Mediterranean in their quest for empowerment and gender equality. More concretely, the Foundation will implement the Union for the Mediterranean labelled project Developing Women Empowerment, approved by the 43 Members of the Union for the Mediterranean. The newly launched Foundation, whose headquarters are in Barcelona, is composed and governed by representatives from the North and the South of the Mediterranean, including non-governmental organizations, academic and research community, and local and national public authorities. Bled, 2-3 September, 2013. In the framework of an official visit to Slovenia, UfM Secretary General Sijilmassi was invited to address the Bled Strategic Forum, a platform for high-level strategic dialogue among leaders from the private and public sectors on key issues facing the world in the 21st century.
