InspireHER Contest: Transforming Financial Access and Entrepreneurship in the MENA Region

The Contest

The InspireHer Contest, is an initiative of the Union of Arab Banks (UAB), in partnership with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), seeking to significantly transform financial access and entrepreneurship opportunities for women throughout the MENA region.

Recognizing the critical importance of women’s economic empowerment, InspireHer aims to address the notable challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, particularly in accessing financial services and business development opportunities.

Eligibility and participation

Women entrepreneurs from Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Mauritania, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and Libya are invited to participate. Through this competition, women have the chance to present initiatives specifically tailored to overcome existing financial barriers, enhance economic participation, and boost entrepreneurial activity in their communities.
Applications open on 24 March 2025, with submissions closing on May 5th, 2025. Finalists will be announced in June 2025, leading up to the grand awards ceremony scheduled for 15 July 2025.

Contest objectives

Key objectives include raising widespread awareness about the importance of financial inclusion for women, clearly identifying the unique challenges they face in entrepreneurship, and celebrating successful women entrepreneurs who have successfully navigated these barriers.
Furthermore, the contest seeks to encourage the development of innovative, scalable solutions that foster financial access and growth for women-led enterprises.
A pivotal component of the initiative is the establishment of a robust networking platform designed to facilitate knowledge exchange, collaboration, and ongoing support among entrepreneurs, financial institutions, policymakers, and other essential stakeholders.

Contest categories and awards

Participants are encouraged to apply in 4 categories:

1. The “New Venture Category” targets early-stage entrepreneurs with businesses operational for up to two years.

2. The “Established Business Category” welcomes enterprises actively operating for one to three years. Both categories provide significant financial awards, granting the first, second, and third-place winners $3,000, $2,000, and $1,500, respectively.These awards support diverse business needs such as initial business setups, operational expansions, marketing strategies, and market entry efforts.

3. Additionally, the InspireHer Contest offers a distinguished ‘Women Entrepreneur Award 2025’. This special recognition honours one extraordinary entrepreneur who demonstrates significant impact in advancing financial inclusion and women’s economic empowerment, providing her with a $2,000 grant to further enhance her business initiatives and community impact.

SANAD-Powered Award

4. Recognizing Innovation in FinTech, AgTech, and Sustainability

This exclusive award is designed to recognize outstanding women-led companies operating in FinTech, AgTech, or Sustainability across SANAD’s eligible countries: Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Egypt.

Key Highlights:

  • Applicants in these sectors must apply under the relevant general competition category (New Venture or Established Business).
  • The SANAD-Powered Award offers additional recognition to exceptional businesses within these priority sectors.
  • Each company is eligible to win only one award. If a project qualifies for both the general category and the SANAD Award, the jury will determine the most suitable recognition to ensure fairness.

  • InspireHer Innovation Champion in Fintech
    Grant: $2,000
    Description: Awarded to the top-ranking woman-led business demonstrating exceptional innovation and impact in FinTech.
  • InspireHer Innovation Champion in Agtech
    Grant: $2,000
    Description: Awarded to the top-ranking woman-led business demonstrating exceptional innovation and impact in Agtech.
  • InspireHer Innovation Champion in Sustainability
    Grant: $2000
    Description: Awarded to the top-ranking woman-led business demonstrating exceptional innovation and focus on Sutainbility.

    About SANAD
    The SANAD Fund for MSME supports micro, small, and medium enterprises as well as low-income households in the Middle East, North Africa, and select sub-Saharan African countries through local lenders. By offering debt and equity financing, SANAD promotes economic development, job creation – especially for youth – agriculture, affordable housing, and financial innovation. Its Technical Assistance Facility enhances impact through capacity-building and responsible finance. Capacity-building and networking opportunities

Winners and finalists will benefit extensively from specialised capacity-building programmes delivered by UNIDO. These include professional development workshops focused on pitching skills, comprehensive enterprise development strategies, investment promotion training, tailored business counselling, mentorship opportunities, and exclusive networking access at the prestigious World Entrepreneurs Investment Forum.

Visibility and recognition

Participants will also receive extensive visibility opportunities, including dedicated features in the prestigious Revue UAB magazine and promotion through social media channels managed by the Union of Arab Banks and the UfM.

Awards ceremony

The InspireHer awards ceremony will culminate at the esteemed UfM Women Business Forum on 16-17 july 2025, in Palermo, Italy. This event will gather influential women entrepreneurs, industry leaders, financial institutions, and policymakers from across the region to celebrate, network, and advance the cause of women’s economic empowerment and entrepreneurship.

  • Innovation: Novelty and originality of the business idea or solution.
  • Impact: Potential positive impact on financial inclusion and women empowerment.
  • Feasibility: Practicality and sustainability of the business model.
  • Scalability: Potential for growth and replication in other parts of the MENA region
