Key stakeholders of gender equality gathered in seven national workshops under the framework of the UfM Project Developing Women’s empowerment.
Since mid-2015, seven national consultation workshops have been organised by local associations in the southern Mediterranean targeted countries in Oran (Algeria), Giza (Egypt), Irbid (Jordan), Mont-Lebanon (Lebanon), Marrakech and Safi (Morocco), West Bank (Palestine) and Sousse and Monastir (Tunisia). The workshops have gathered key gender equality stakeholders at the local level, including representatives from national and local authorities, civil society organisations and experts, who discussed topics such as women’s political participation and gender-based violence. The objective is to assess the progress made in gender equality and to provide recommendations to policy makers at the national and Euro-Mediterranean level in accordance with the mission of the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation.
On 5-6 March 2016 in Oran, Algeria, the Academic and Scientific Network on women and gender will organise a seminar on the theme “Globalisation, gender and mobility”. The seminar aims to make available the results of academic research on women and gender to the general public and to enrich this research through bringing together the research community and people taking action on the ground.
