Parliamentary Assembly of the UfM welcomes the renewed partnership EU- Southern Mediterranean countries and its Investment Plan
16 February 2021, Virtual meeting. The Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Nasser Kamel, participated in the 16th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the UfM (PA-UfM), which took place in virtual format on the 16th of February.
The annual gathering of the 280 members of the Parliamentary Assembly focused its debates on the important topic of “the fight against climate change in the Mediterranean Region”. The meeting was chaired by the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, on behalf of President Sassoli. The Vice-President reiterated the importance of a global joint approach at an Euro-Mediterranean level to positively address this common challenge, saluting the recent adoption of the New Agenda for the Mediterranean.
UfM Secretary General, Ambassador Nasser Kamel, presented the Parliamentary Assembly with an overview of the activities and initiatives supported by the UfM.
The Secretary General welcomed the renewed partnership with the Southern Mediterranean countries and its accompanying Economic and Investment Plan will help to address the pressing challenges faced in the region. He shared the work received in preparation of the UfM Ministerial Conference on Environment and Climate Change that allow to identify common concerns and address how to protect the region’s natural resources and generate green growth.
