Steering Committee Meeting of the Horizon 2020 Initiative: towards acceleration of pollution reduction and prevention investment projects in the Mediterranean

Organised by the Co-presidencies of the UfM, the European Union and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Steering Committee of the Horizon 2020 Initiative for a cleaner Mediterranean Sea will take place at the Palacio de Pedralbes in Barcelona on 17 December 2014.
As requested by UfM Environment Ministers in the Athens, the primary objective of this meeting is to adopt the work programme for the second phase of the H2020 Initiative (period 2015-2020), and will take place in a joint session with the focal points of the MEDPOL program of UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan.
The draft work programme has been prepared following a participatory approach for each component as discussed and agreed within the relevant H2020 groups and will be presented for discussion and adoption by the Steering Committee. The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) as co-chair of the Pollution Reduction & Prevention Investment group of the Horizon 2020 Initiative together with the European Investment Bank (EIB), organised a first meeting of the PRP investment component on 18th November to this end with the focus on joint actions and priorities over the coming years as well as concrete financial instruments for project preparation and implementation in the sectors of waste water, industrial pollution and solid waste in the Mediterranean.
