UfM Secretariat supports trade development in the Euro-Mediterranean region
Barcelona, 28 November 2014 – The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean hosted the Euro-Mediterranean Trade and Investment Facilitation Mechanism (TIFM): Training Workshop for Technical Focal Points on 27 and 28 November at its headquarters Barcelona.
The TIFM, funded by the European Commission (2014-2016), aims at improving economic integration between the EU and the Southern Mediterranean countries by providing an online portal of trade and market information for the so-called “TIFM countries”, namely Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia and Turkey.
The project is being implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. It will launch the online information portal EuroMed Trade Helpdesk and coordinate a network of national institutions responsible for responding to enquiries posted to the online portal, so as to facilitate trade and investment in the region.
This two-day meeting, which also included technical training on non-tariff measures, was held within the framework of the UfM strategy to boost trade and investment in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
