UfM supports business networking opportunities among women entrepreneurs in the Mediterranean region
Barcelona, 21 November, 2013. UfM Secretary General Sijilmassi participated in the 5th Mediterranean Women Entrepreneurs Forum, held on 22nd November 2013 in Barcelona, and co-organised by the Association of Organisations of Mediterranean Businesswomen (AFAEMME), the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation and the Association of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME). The Forum aimed at providing women entrepreneurs in the Mediterranean region with the opportunity to make business contacts in key sectors for the economic development of the region as well as to explain success stories, share good practices and know-how and to analyse the role of women in the development of the region’s economies.
Secretary General Sijilmassi closed the forum, supporting an enhanced role of women-led businesses in the process of the region’s socio-economic development. He emphasized the need for women’s stronger contribution to the region’s developing economies in an effort to make them truly inclusive and sustainable. He highlighted the importance of entrepreneurial education and training for women and a stronger institutional and financial support to the region’s women-led SMEs and businesses in general. He presented the Union for the Mediterranean’s concrete labelled projects and initiatives supporting women’s overall empowerment, and informed the participants of the up-coming Union for the Mediterranean Conference on Projects in the field of women empowerment and gender equality, planned for March 2014 in Barcelona.
The Forum was attended by numerous professional and businesswomen associations, business development agencies, civil society organisations and finance institutions from the Euro-Mediterranean region.
