2 November 2021, Glasgow. The Union for the Mediterranean and Cyprus, together with Clima-Med and the Network of Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (Medecc) will organise the COP26 joint side event “Climate Action in the Mediterranean” that will take place at the EU Pavilion in Glasgow in a hybrid format, on the 2 November 2021, at 14:00 CET.
This event aims to present the challenges linked to climate change in the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean Basin is warming faster than the global average and MedECC scientists warn about impacts of climate and environmental changes in the Mediterranean on agriculture, public health, ecosystems, tourism, water resources as well as humanitarian and security issues. Joint action, based on science, is urgently needed. Two examples in the Mediterranean region will be presented and discussed namely, the Cyprus Climate Change Initiative and innovative climate funding strategies modeled by the Clima-Med project.
The session includes high level remarks, presentations and a participatory Q&A focused on climate change impacts and solutions in the region to help stakeholders plan for current and future climate change in the Mediterranean Basin
