Dr. Lino Cardarelli assumes the position of the UfMS Acting Secretary General

The Co- Presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean has confirmed Dr. Lino Cardarelli in the position of Secretary General of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean on interim basis after the appointment of Mr. Youssef Amrani, as Minister Delegated to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco.

Dr. Cardarelli has assumed his position on the 16th January 2012.

On this, Dr. Cardarelli commented: “I am honored to serve once again as Interim Secretary General. The Secretariat now, is certainly in a stronger position, Mr. Amrani has succeeded to provide a greater visibility to the Secretariat, which is considered now as a vector to strengthen regional cooperation between the two banks of the Mediterranean. I thank the Co Presidency and the country members of the Union for the Mediterranean for their continuous support to the Secretariat, as my colleagues the deputies in charge of all the divisions-The Social and Civil Affairs; Water and Environment; Research and Higher Education; Energy; Transport and Urban Development- we are determined to execute the work program of the Secretariat according to its mandate: in materializing concrete projects that can impact the lives of our people.”

Dr. Cardarelli, who serves as Senior Deputy Secretary General in charge of Projects Funding Coordination and Business Development, will be assuming the tasks of the Secretary General until the appointment of a new one.
