UfM High-Level Event

About MYF

Media

6-9 Nov 2023. The 3rd edition of the Mediterranean Youth Academy – MYA seeks to qualify and prepare at least 90 young Euro-Mediterranean people through a four-day training program, aimed at promoting awareness and involve youth in the response to Mediterranean issues and challenges: specifically, climate change, youth unemployment, and social inclusion. This initiative is co-organised with the Mediterranean Youth Foundation for Development – MYF, an Egyptian youth foundation that fosters intercultural dialogue and social cooperation among the Euro-Mediterranean, Asian, and North African countries.

After two successful editions in Egypt, the 3rd edition of the MYA will be held from 6th to 9th of November 2023 in Barcelona. The event will specifically focus on three thematic clusters: namely, climate change & climate justice, youth employment, and social inclusion.

The MYA will be held in the form of a 4-day in-person event combining panels and workshops delivered with a non-formal education approach. During the workshops, the young participants will be stimulated to identify key policy recommendations linked to the 3 thematic clusters and to propose initiatives that are relevant for youth in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Three to five of these bottom-up initiatives will eventually receive support in terms of small grants, legal support, and further skill building, under the
exclusive and sole responsibility of the MYF. As a follow-up to participants, the MYF will also draft the “Initiatives for the Mediterranean” guidebook. The guidebook will provide insights on how youth-led initiatives can contribute to addressing issues widely felt in the Euro-Mediterranean region and discussed during the MYA.

UfM Event on Youth engagement for a sustainable and inclusive Mediterranean (9th November)

The UfM Event on Youth engagement for a sustainable and inclusive Mediterranean will provide an opportunity for high-level decision-makers, international organizations, CSOs, and engaged young people to share ideas, good practices, and recommendations on three main topics: challenges and opportunities of the twin green and digital transition; ways to bridge the skills mismatch towards youth employability and entrepreneurship and social inclusion and participation of young men and women. Furthermore, during the event, the outcome of the third edition of the MYA will also be presented.

About the Mediterranean Youth Foundation for Development – MYF

MYF, the first youth foundation oriented to Mediterranean countries, is established in the Arab Republic of Egypt in 2018 and led by youth to serve youth. This is achieved through making them participate in social life, especially those with fewer opportunities, with the aim of strengthening their participation in building youth friendly societies. MYF is the first Egyptian foundation to win King Hamad Award for Youth Empowerment to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals, Youth Empowerment Category for 2020. Recipient of the United Nations Prize for Innovation and Intercultural Dialogue 2021. It was approved as a permanent observer member, to be the second Egyptian institution in history to obtain permanent membership in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2022. The Foundation was also granted special advisory membership in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in 2023.
