Calling educators in architecture and planning: we are seeking university-led urban initiatives across the Euro-Mediterranean
6 May 2025. The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is launching a call for exemplary university-led initiatives in the fields of Architecture and Urban Planning that contribute to sustainable, resilient, and inclusive urban development in the Mediterranean region. Selected case studies will be featured in an upcoming UfM publication focused on greening the curricula in architecture and planning schools across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
This initiative is part of the UfM Strategic Urban Development Action Plan 2040, aiming to highlight innovative academic practices that address today’s most pressing urban challenges—while bridging the gap between academia and society.
This call seeks to select collaborative practices that bring together academic and non-academic stakeholders to co-create context-specific, sustainable solutions. These practices not only generate social and economic value but also enrich architectural and planning education by connecting it to real-world needs.
Eligible activities include:
-
Architecture and/or Urban Planning design workshops and charrettes
-
Community engagement programmes
-
Urban Living Labs
-
City-to-city learning initiatives
-
Citizen science programmes
-
Capacity-building programmes
-
MOOCs
-
Research collaborations
-
PhDs by practice or by design
If you have led such an initiative since January 2022—especially one involving regional collaboration and non-academic partners—we encourage you to submit your case for consideration.
