
Euro-Mediterranean countries renew climate ambition and cooperation at 2nd Mediterranean Green Week in Brussels
26 June 2025, Brussels — The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) successfully concluded the 2nd Mediterranean Green Week (24–26 June 2025, Brussels), where policymakers, experts, youth leaders, and stakeholders from across the Euro-Mediterranean region gathered to reaffirm their commitment to a just and inclusive green transition.
Key highlights included the announcement of the first-ever UfM Energy & Climate Action Youth Delegates, empowering young leaders to help shape climate and energy policy, drive innovation, and co-create solutions for a just energy transition.
High-level sessions and working groups covered critical topics such as clean energy transition, regional energy security, climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, gender-sensitive environmental policies, and the integration of science into policymaking. The programme featured sessions on the WEFE Nexus, capacity-building workshops on gender, the environment and climate change, and updates on the UfM Grant Schemes supporting green jobs and entrepreneurship.
Speakers including European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica, UfM Secretary General Nasser Kamel, and Malta’s Minister for Environment, Energy and Regeneration Miriam Dalli underscored the importance of turning climate ambition into action through strong partnerships, knowledge-sharing, and investment.
The 2nd Mediterranean Green Week also hosted meetings of the UfM Regional Platform on Environment and Climate Action, the UfM Regional Platform on Energy, and several UfM working groups, laying the groundwork for interim regional action plans on energy and climate, and future ministerial deliberations.
Building on the UfM’s 2030 GreenerMed Agenda and previous ministerial commitments, the 2nd Mediterranean Green Week reinforces regional cooperation and advanced discussions in preparations for of the Mediterranean Pavilion at COP30.
