UfM and PA-UfM renew cooperation framework to strengthen Euro-Mediterranean parliamentary dialogue
4 July 2026, Cairo – The Union for the Mediterranean and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean have renewed their cooperation framework for the period 2026–2030, reinforcing the link between Euro-Mediterranean parliamentary diplomacy and intergovernmental action. Endorsed during the PA-UfM Bureau meeting in Cairo, the roadmap aims to strengthen strategic coordination, increase the visibility of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and support the effective implementation of shared regional priorities.
The renewed framework recognises the complementary roles of governments and parliaments in advancing regional cooperation, particularly at a time of growing international uncertainty. It foresees annual coordination meetings, regular exchanges between the UfM Secretariat and PA-UfM structures, reciprocal participation in institutional meetings, and closer cooperation between UfM Policy Platforms and PA-UfM Committees on key areas including political affairs, economic development, education, culture, energy, environment, water and women’s rights.
The agreement was announced in the context of the 10th Summit of Speakers of Parliament and the 19th Plenary Session of the PA-UfM, held at the Egyptian House of Representatives in the New Administrative Capital from 3 to 5 July 2026. Discussions focused on artificial intelligence, youth engagement, women’s empowerment and parliamentary diplomacy for peace and stability in the Middle East, with the renewed framework set to help translate these priorities into stronger institutional cooperation, greater citizen engagement and more visible Euro-Mediterranean action.
