Acting UfM Secretary General Fadi Hajali holds high-level meetings in Morocco to strengthen regional cooperation

24 July 2026, Fez – Acting Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Secretary General Fadi Hajali concluded a two-day working visit to Morocco, where he held high-level meetings in Rabat and Fez to reinforce cooperation with key regional partners and advance shared Mediterranean priorities.

On 23 July in Rabat, the Acting Secretary General met with Morocco’s Senior Official to the UfM before holding talks with the Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), Ambassador Tarak Ben Salem, at the AMU headquarters. Discussions focused on the challenges facing the Mediterranean and the opportunities to address them through the implementation of the UfM Vision Statement and the Pact for the Mediterranean, as well as Morocco’s continued role in supporting Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.

On 24 July in Fez, Acting Secretary General Hajali participated in the meetings of the General Assembly and the Board of Governors of the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez (UEMF). On the sidelines, he held bilateral talks with Professor Mustapha Bousmina, President of UEMF, to discuss avenues for enhanced cooperation between the University and the UfM. The visit also included a tour of the University’s facilities, highlighting UEMF’s role as a leading regional institution promoting higher education, research, innovation and intercultural dialogue across the Mediterranean.

Endorsed by the 43 UfM Member States in 2012, the Euromed University of Fes is a UfM flagship project. Today it brings together more than 4,500 students, 22% of them international, across 64 programmes, 24 of which are double degrees with international universities. Almost 1,900 students completed internships in 2026, and the university holds 154 active academic and research partnerships across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
