Empowering businesses to drive sustainable change
24, 25, and 26 May 2023, Barcelona – The Union for the Mediterranean, in collaboration with ANIMA Investment Network organised the Conference on “Aligning investments with sustainability and corporate responsibility – The digitalization of impact measurement’’, in Barcelona with the support of the German Development Cooperation and EBSOMED.
This joint Conference was the occasion to showcase several initiatives aiming at driving private investments towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as well as to have an exchange on how to use concrete tools to assess their performance in terms of economic, environmental, and social effects. During the first day, the European Union and other international organisations were invited to present their strategies and vision of the future regulations in the region, and showcase remarkable practices led by public and private organisations from the Union for the Mediterranean countries.
In his opening remarks, the UfM Deputy Secretary General, Abdelkader El Khissassi, highlighted the longstanding partnership between the UfM and ANIMA Investment Network in the field of private sector promotion in the region. Naming concrete examples of adopted declarations and implemented activities, he put forward the continuous commitment of the UfM to promote sustainable investment.
From his side, Emmanuel Noutary, Délégué Général of ANIMA, underlined that the pressing challenges confronting our region, be it of environmental or social nature, request the involvement of the private sector in providing the solutions. In this regard, he emphasized the readiness of ANIMA to share its expertise on how to prioritize investments with positive impact.
On the second day, participants engaged in practical and interactive workshops to understand how to operationalise, at the level of their country and organisation, the services delivered to companies in order to improve their impact. The Impact Rating online tools and their adaptability were also presented.
On the last day, participants were taken to a benchmarking visit.
