The project is about to formally take off with the aim to address the challenging governance-financing nexus with regard to the Mediterranean water sector. The financial contribution of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) accounts for about 40% of the project and will finance primarily the project’s regional component, consisting of regional consultation meetings and dialogue events as well as the regional coordination, administration and communication of the project.

During a working meeting held at the UfM premises, both institutions defined concrete synergies and ways to advance complementary activities on environmental and water issues and on Energy and the Mediterranean Solar Plan.

UfM Secretary General Sijilmassi took part in a High-level Conference on civil protection cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The UfM Secretariat has identified possible areas of project cooperation to enable the civil protection actors to better anticipate the risks to which the countries are exposed.

The Union for the Mediterranean and the Desertec Industrial Initiative (Dii) agreed to strengthen their collaboration to utilize common synergies for their long-term strategies “Mediterranean Solar Plan” and “Desert Power 2050”. Both programs are essential for the future energy supply in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
