Deputy Secretary General Yigit Alpogan at the International Forum in Marseille “New Towns in the Mediterranean for sustainable cities”
Deputy Secretary General for Transport and Urban Development Yigit Alpogan was invited to speak at this International Forum organized by the Co-presidency of the UfM, Egypt and France. It gathered experts and political actors from all Mediterranean basin to debate the future of Mediterranean cities and urban planning, as well as the need for cooperation between all the actors.
These issues are of rising importance in the political agenda as world population is 50% urban (3billion people), and in 2050 it will be 2/3 of the world population. It was the occasion to debate about new ideas, exchange of knowledge and experiences between countries and actors, but also to present projects and initiatives taking place in the Mediterranean for sustainable urbanism.
In his intervention, H.E. Ambassador Alpogan presented the Secretariat and its priorities regarding urban development whilst the former French Secretary of State for City Policy, Fadela Amara, announced the launching of a network of operators and urban planners in the Mediterranean.
