Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes (UEMF): Launch of INSA Euro-Mediterranée courses and MA Environmental Engineering

Higher Education & Research

Fes, 14 September 2015

The Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes (UEMF) will be a unique regional centre of excellence, welcoming more than 6,000 students from across the region and offering a wide range of programmes, ranging from humanities and social sciences to engineering. The UEMF will help to promote dialogue, cultural exchange and cooperation within higher education and research and between both sides of the Mediterranean.

INSA Euro-Mediterranée courses

Coinciding with the start of the academic year 2015-2016, the UEMF will inaugurate the first courses at theEuro-Mediterranean Institute of Technology (INSA Euro-Méditerranée), which was created and developed in conjunction with the Institut National des Sciences Appliqués (INSA Groupe), a group of six leading engineering schools in France. This initiative also involves a large Euro-Mediterranean consortium of universities (EuroMedTech consortium) from five participating countries (Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Italy and France).

Training and research programmes at INSA Euro-Méditerrannée (including an integrated preparatory cycle) will be related to the following subjects and specialisms:

Mechanical and energy engineering

  • Mechanical and industrial engineering
  • Energy engineering

Electrical engineering

  • Electrical and electronic engineering
  • Electronic and embedded systems

Information and communication systems

  • Networked systems
  • Mathematical and modelling engineering

On 14 September 2015 INSA Euro-Méditerranée will welcome its first 192 students.  Students enrolled at INSA Euro-Méditerranée will spend two years studying at the UEMF and a third year in one of the INSA Group’s six engineering institutes. In addition, they will participate in a six-month mobility experience in another university in the consortium. Internships at partner companies are also planned at the end of their studies.

In 2016, 288 students are expected to be enrolled for the first year and 40 students for the second year at the UEMF facilities in Fes. 128 vacancies will be offered for the third year in Europe, namely at INSA Groupe institutes and universities in the consortium.

The diplomas awarded to these engineers will be recognised by the Moroccan Government, the French Government and the European network of engineering schools.

More information on the INSA Euro-Méditerranée courses can be found here

UEMF MA in Environmental Engineering

Launched in September 2014, the UEMF’s accredited Master’s programme in Environmental Engineering will begin in October 2015.  This MA will be taught in temporary offices located in Fès Shore, where another accredited Master’s programme in Renewable Energies is already taking place.

The MA in Environmental Engineering takes a multidisciplinary approach (scientific, technical and social) to Environment issues. It aims to provide training on the development of clean technologies in order to solve the environmental problems caused by human activity, with a particular focus on the Euro-Mediterranean region. Students will acquire advanced knowledge of scientific methods and techniques; the structure, dynamics and functioning of natural ecosystems; national and international legislation; the green economy; and so on. Students will master the skills and abilities needed for the implementation of techniques and innovative tools to both prevent and manage technical, economic, social and human environmental issues. Simulation sessions, group work and role plays are envisaged, as well as outings, visits and exchanges with UEMF academic and socio-economic partners.
