18-19 October 2023, Valencia – In the Ministerial Declaration emanating from the 5th UfM Regional Forum (27 November 2020), it was emphasised that: “The UfM Platform on Civil Protection should play a key role in discussing common challenges and concrete actions to be developed within the framework of the Action Plan for a Euro-Mediterranean Civil Protection strengthened on prevention campaigns, emergency response and crisis management”.
Acting upon this, supported by Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and DG ECHO, the 4th Meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean’s Directors-General for Civil Protection will be held on the 18-19 October in Valencia, Spain, with a focus on ushering in more agile, resilient, and mutual governance across Euro-Mediterranean civil protection systems.
This meeting will gather Civil Protection Directors-General and diverse stakeholders to present the outcomes of the Regional Dialogue Platform on Civil Protection initiated in December 2022, and validate the 2030 UfM Action Plan on Civil Protection, which will pave the way to effective on the ground action in the frame of a Mediterranean Framework on Civil Protection.
The deliberations and discussions emanating from this meeting will play a pivotal role in shaping a more resilient Euro-Mediterranean region – one that is better prepared to confront the challenges of today and those that await us in the future.
This meeting will be held back-to-back, and in coordination with the 51st Meeting of the Directors General of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). Therefore, the morning of the 18th October will be dedicated to a joint plenary session, with the Civil Protection Directors-General of the European Union Member States and participating States of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, focused on cross-cutting Euro-Mediterranean experiences.
