7-9 May 2023, Salt and Amman (Jordan). The inauguration of the project ‘Making Water Cooperation Happen in MENA: Piloting Tangibles’, aka MENA Water Matchmaker 2, specifically its technical pilot in Jordan, is taking place on 8 May 2023. The scheduled inauguration of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus technical intervention in Wadi Shuayb (Salt, Jordan) will proof the concept of WEFE by pioneering nature based solutions for wastewater reuse through renewable energy for improved farm irrigation. The event will also be an opportunity to identify opportunities for scaling up and replicating the WEFE Nexus approach in other regions in Jordan and MENA countries.
In the core of the MENA Water Matchmaker 2 project is the implementation of two demonstrable and scalable technical WEFE Nexus interventions in Jordan and Palestine whereby the treated wastewater which flows into the Wadis is pumped using renewable solar energy to irrigate nearby farmlands. The MENA Water Matchmaker 2 Project has aimed to prove, hence, through piloting, the integrated concept of applying local WEFE Nexus technical solutions while capacitating beneficiary groups on employment options, offering measurable and scalable contributions for further application in MENA countries.
As part of the project’s main objectives to combine local technical solutions with employability and entrepreneurship capacity development, a Capacity Building Course on Institutionalising Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus in MENA (with focus on Jordan, Palestine and Lebanon) will be held on between 7 and 9 May in Amman.
