UfM Conference on Greening Maritime Transport in the Mediterranean

8-9 June 2023, Barcelona. The UfM Conference on Greening the Maritime Transport in the Mediterranean will take place on 8-9 June 2023 in Barcelona and will be organized by the UfM in collaboration with the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME) and the MEDports Association within the framework of the MedaLogistics 2023 (Mediterranean Logistic Week) and SIL Barcelona. The event aims to share knowledge and strengthen cooperation between UfM countries and to explore the way forward for this green transition, in particular in the light of the renewed UfM mandate as endorsed by UfM Ministers of Transport on 9 February 2023.
The Conference is aimed at sharing knowledge and strengthening cooperation between UfM countries and exploring the way forward for this green transition, in particular in the light of the renewed UfM mandate as endorsed by UfM Ministers of Transport on 9 February 2023.
It will do this, by:
- Setting the scene on the key challenges for sustainable ports and shipping in the Mediterranean.
- Showcasing regional and international policy and regulatory frameworks which could encourage greener maritime transport.
- Discussing specific measures and success stories at the level of Mediterranean ports to make them greener and more sustainable.
- Reviewing actions and best practices on green shipping, as well as the support by green technologies within the framework of research and innovation initiatives.
- Discussing existing mechanisms targeting the protection of marine environment related to maritime transport in the Mediterranean.
- Leaning about current and future financing instruments supporting innovations towards green and sustainable maritime transport.
