Working Group of the UfM Regional Platform on Women Empowerment
3 June 2025, online. The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is pleased to announce the Working Group meeting of the UfM Regional Platform on Women Empowerment, scheduled online on 3 June 2025. This Working Group serves as a key milestone in advancing gender equality commitments in the Euro-Mediterranean region, gathering policymakers, experts, and regional stakeholders to shape the future of gender-responsive policies and actions.
The UfM Regional Platform on Women Empowerment provides a structured framework for policy dialogue and cooperation, supporting the implementation of Roadmap for Implementation of the 5th UfM Ministerial Declaration on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society, adopted in Madrid in 2022.
This 1st Working Group Meeting will play a preparatory role for the upcoming UfM Regional Platform Meeting, set to take place in Barcelona in the last quarter of 2025. The Barcelona meeting will be the right platform for presenting the updated progress gender equality report, and reflecting on the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration to assess regional progress and define future priorities.
Key objectives of the meeting
The 1st UfM Working Group on Women Empowerment will focus on:
- Collect data for the 2nd Gender Equality Monitoring Mechanism Report, assessing gender gaps and policy implementation in UfM Member States.
- Advancing discussions on the Roadmap for the Implementation of the Ministerial Declaration, ensuring that commitments are translated into concrete actions.
- Facilitating an open exchange among UfM National Focal Points on Gender Equality and regional stakeholders to refine key themes and priorities for the upcoming UfM Regional Platform Meeting in Amman.
The meeting will bring together UfM National Focal Points on Gender Equality, representatives from international and regional organizations, civil society, and gender experts. Participants will have the opportunity to engage through presentations, interactive discussions, and Q&A sessions.
