First official visit to Greece: UfM Secretary General Nasser Kamel meets the Minister of Foreign Affairs George Katrougalos
Athens, 19-20 February 2019. The UfM Secretary General, Nasser Kamel, paid a working visit to Athens from 19 to 20 February 2019, where he was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, George Katrougalos. The new Alternate Minister for European Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Sia Anagnostopoulou, also joined the meeting.
During their meeting, Secretary General Kamel expressed his appreciation to the Minister for the support of his country to the UfM, highlighting the role of Greece as a strong proponent of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, and a country with a rich Mediterranean heritage. Secretary General Kamel also provided an overview on recent UfM activities, underlining the role of the organization in a rapidly evolving regional context.
On his side, Minister Katrougalos expressed his regard for the added value that the UfM brings to the region, while stressing that the UfM can rely on the continued support of his country.
Furthermore, the UfM Secretary General participated as a key note speaker in an event, organized by the Institute for the Mediterranean of the European Administrative Law Organization (EPLO), on the occasion of the “10th anniversary of the establishment of the Union for the Mediterranean”, following an invitation by the Director of the Institute Ambassador Sotirios Varouxakis. Panelists included Prof. Spyridon Flogaitis, Director of the EPLO, Dimitris Paraskevopoulos, Secretary General of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, George Markopouliotis, Head of the EU Delegation in Athens, and Lucian Fătu, Ambassador of Romania.
