Funding opportunities for R&D+i cooperation projects in the Mediterranean region – informative session at UfM Secretariat
Barcelona, 26 November 2014 – Today at its headquarters in Barcelona, the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) hosted an informative session entitled “Funding opportunities for R&D+i cooperation projects in the Mediterranean region”.
Co-organised by the Catalan Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the event aimed to raise awareness and inform research teams about available financial sources and tools for developing cooperation projects in the region.
“Cooperation projects in research, development and innovation are crucial for the growth of the Euro-Mediterranean region, as they have a direct impact on regional integration and employability”, affirmed UfM Deputy Secretary General for Higher Education and Research, Professor Ilan Chet. “Unfortunately, these programmes often lack financial resources; this is why I believe this informative session is extremely useful and will contribute to creating stronger ties between the universities and research institutions gathered here today”, he concluded.
Detailed information on the ongoing calls for project proposals under the Horizon 2020, ERANETMED and ENI CBC MED programmes was provided during the seminar.
Projects and initiatives featuring a Research, Development & Innovation component in which the UfM is involved were also presented. The meeting contributed to enhancing joint cooperation research activities in the region in line with the UfM mandate and work programme. Special emphasis was placed on the project for the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes. Participants shared ideas and views of new regional research projects where the support of the UfM Secretariat could be an added value.
