•The European Investment Bank grants €70 million loan to the EuroMed University of Fes, a flagship project of the Union for the Mediterranean to contribute towards regional integration and stability through the promotion of international mobility, intercultural dialogue and cooperation in the fields of higher education, research and innovation •The loan represents a substantial contribution for the construction of the University’s eco-campus which will have the capacity to host over 6,000 students coming from all the Euro-Mediterranean countries. Barcelona, 22 March 2017 – The Mediterranean region is one of the areas in the world most vulnerable to climate change as well as one of the most impacted by human water demand, where more than 180 million people are affected by water poverty and an additional 60 million face water stress to some degree. Danielsson and Sijilmassi opened the 1st UfM Working Group on Environment and Climate Change, held in Palau de Pedralbes, Barcelona. The UfM Secretariat’s projects and initiatives specifically addressing women’s empowerment and gender equality benefit more than 50,000 women in 20 Euro-Mediterranean countries. Additionally, a gender mainstreaming policy is always ensured in all UfM projects. The region could increase its per capita GDP by 25%, by enabling women’s equal participation in public life and the labour market.
