Danielsson and Sijilmassi opened the 1st UfM Working Group on Environment and Climate Change, held in Palau de Pedralbes, Barcelona. The UfM Secretariat’s projects and initiatives specifically addressing women’s empowerment and gender equality benefit more than 50,000 women in 20 Euro-Mediterranean countries. Additionally, a gender mainstreaming policy is always ensured in all UfM projects. The region could increase its per capita GDP by 25%, by enabling women’s equal participation in public life and the labour market. The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) today hosts the first General Assembly of the Mediterranean Youth Climate Network (MYCN) in Barcelona. The MYCN carries out actions to fight climate change in order to promote awareness, advocate solutions, share experiences and support local initiatives. Barcelona, 24 February 2017. The Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) and the UfM Secretariat have signed a €6.5 million multi annual financial agreement to support UfM core activities in favour of a more sustainable and inclusive development in the region.
