IUCN is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental network - a democratic membership union with more than 1,000 government and NGO member organizations, and almost 11,000 volunteer scientists in more than 160 countries. IUCN’s work is supported by more than 1,000 professional staff in 45 offices and hundreds of partners in public, NGO and private sectors around the world. Its headquarters are based in Gland, Switzerland.

The IUCN Brussels team is looking for a highly motivated intern for a period of 6 months to provide support to one specific area of the office’s activities: upscaling the implementation of nature-based solutions.
Under the supervision of the IUCN EU Programme Manager Nature Based Solutions, the intern will support two major projects focused on implementing and upscaling nature-based solutions – GrowGreen, which focuses on demonstrating the value of nature for climate and water resilience in cities and NetworkNature, which is a European and global platform for strengthening the use of nature-based solutions. He/she will support communications, outreach and capacity building events, both online and (if circumstances allow) in person. The intern will also contribute to mapping potential partners for nature-based solutions at EU, national and regional level, will follow relevant EU policy developments and will maintain an overview of reports, documents and case studies of nature-based solutions.

Project Officer Maritime Capabilities

Under the supervision of the Head of Unit Maritime Domain, the jobholder will be responsible for/contribute to the following activities:

support Member States by managing ongoing and future projects in the maritime domain notably in Naval Combat and Maritime Interdiction;
manage the Project Team Naval Manoeuvrability (PT NM) and the related working bodies, organise meetings, workshops and symposiums to implement the EU Capability Development Priorities Naval Combat and Maritime Interdiction;
contribute to the implementation of the EU Capability Development Priorities, and their related Strategic Context Case (SCC);
support ad-hoc projects/programmes (Cat A/B) (e.g. European Patrol Corvette, 4E);
monitor the activities in the field of R&T and Capability Developments in a transversal, cross-Directorate approach and continue working in close relationship with the responsible Project Officers;
coordinate and organize EDA participation in exercises and experimentation notably in the field of Naval Combat and Maritime Interdiction;
contribute to the conduct, enhancement, and implementation of all initiatives related to Capability Development and Defence acquisition in which the Unit and the Directorate is engaged:
contribution to the preparation of CARD dialogues, the analysis of CARD findings, and the elaboration of concrete recommendations;
contribute to the assessment of PESCO Project proposals and to the support of these Projects when requested by Member States;
contribute to the elaboration of the European Commission’s Defence Related funding programmes and all related documents.
contribute to all activities related to the elaboration and implementation of high-level documents (e.g. Strategic Compass, Gaps Analysis, Action Plans);
develop and maintain the necessary links with all key stakeholders, such as the EU Military Staff, other Council bodies, the European Commission, etc. and the participating Member States (Military Staff, Procurement Agencies, etc.); as well as NATO;
represent the Agency during conferences and seminars;
take on additional tasks as required in the interest of the Agency.
In doing so, the jobholder will have a primary responsibility in all activities related to project management, including procurement, which includes:

contribute to preparation of projects/programmes management activities, including definition of requirements, market surveys, acquisition strategies, preparation/negotiation of projects/programmes arrangements and associated contracts;
manage projects/programmes in the maritime domain, which are in the Member States’ interest, within the EDA framework (Cat A/B, Operational Budget);
contribute to Agency’s and Directorate’s lines of effort to reinforce / develop project management / procurement approaches, processes and competencies.
Duties may evolve according to development of the EDA’s structure and activities, and the decisions of EDA management.

Events and Communications Coordinator

The EUISS is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual with a great sense of responsibility to support the organisation of the Cyber Consultations with partner countries and other events of the EU Cyber Direct project. This is a high exposure position that requires independent thinking, self-discipline and professionalism. The Events and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of event organisation - including budgeting, reporting, travel arrangements - organised by the EU Cyber Direct. In addition, they will be in charge of project-related communications, including social media and other campaigns. The Events and Communications Coordinator will report to the Project Manager based in Brussels and will work closely with other members of the team at the EUISS and at the partner institutions.

Main responsibilities

Event planning and organisation: in cooperation with project experts, support the logistics of physical and/or online high-profile public and closed-door events (mainly travel and accommodation arrangements, filing expense reports, etc.); liaising with event partners and managing contracts with services providers (venues, caterers, content providers, etc.); under the supervision of the Project Director and Project Coordinator, prepare narrative and quantitative reports from events and other; collect reports from partner organisations for events under their responsibility;
Communications: manage content of the EU Cyber Direct social media platforms; manage content of the EU Cyber Direct website and Directions blog, including communication with the authors; update lists of activities, media articles and updating the website and databases accordingly; drafting content for newsletters, website, and social media; producing visual content and layouts for publications, implement the annual communication strategy and plan; create and promote high-quality content that engages stakeholders and audiences, both for activities and events; give advice and/or provide support across teams concerning project communications; supervise the website and social media platforms; supervise the production of marketing materials and publications; supervise video production from concept to editing to publishing (including managing production process with external contractors).
