Junior Project Officer

WWF is one of the world's leading biodiversity conservation organizations; its mission is to halt the degradation of the planet's natural environment and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.

WWF began operating in Tunisia in 1994, and implements the WWF conservation program throughout the North African region to safeguard natural environments and the species that live in them, promote sustainable lifestyles, train decision-makers, support citizens in their efforts to reduce their ecological footprint, and contribute to the environmental education of young people.

Mission of the Department:

The WWF Marine Program is dedicated to advancing the global mission of conserving and sustainably managing marine ecosystems. Our primary objectives encompass the preservation of marine biodiversity, with a focus on safeguarding endangered species and their habitats. We actively advocate for and implement sustainable fisheries management practices to ensure the long-term health of marine resources, concurrently supporting the livelihoods of fishing communities.

Major Functions:

The junior project officer holds a pivotal role in the conservation initiative, responsible for meticulously planning and coordinating project activities. he/she plays a key role in building local capacity, providing training initiatives, and managing risks to ensure the successful implementation of conservation efforts.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The Junior Project Officer, will be responsible for a diverse array of tasks, from meticulously planning and executing projects to engaging with stakeholders and communities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering valuable partnerships. She / He will have a knack for data analysis and commitment to transparent reporting will be crucial, as will the ability to manage budgets and empower project teams through capacity building.

Profile:

Required Qualifications:

Relevant academic training in marine biology, ecology, natural resource management, or other related disciplines.

A thorough understanding of issues related to the conservation of vulnerable species, the preservation of endangered ecosystems, and sustainable fisheries management.

Required Skills and Competencies:

Technical skills in data collection and analysis, the use of marine research-related tools, and the ability to interpret scientific information plus the ability to plan, coordinate, and implement projects, including the ability to meet deadlines and manage resources effectively.

Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and interact with various stakeholders, including local communities, government authorities, and conservation partners. This should be supported with proficiency in multiple languages (English and French) is required, in addition to the Arabic as the work involves interactions with local communities or international partners.

Working Relationships:

Internal
Reports and interacts regularly with the WWF NA marine program manager (the direct supervisor); and closely coordinates and interacts with all other assigned project team members.

External
Interact with relevant partners at national and local level according to the project(s) objectives.
