Euro-Mediterranean Network of Women Journalists
Context and objectives
The Euro-Mediterranean Network of Women Journalists is a collaborative community of women journalists from across the region. It facilitates dialogue, peer learning and professional exchange, while promoting fairer, more inclusive and gender-sensitive reporting.
The network responds to the continued underrepresentation of women in media spaces and the persistence of gender stereotypes in news coverage. It builds on the commitments of the 5th UfM Ministerial Declaration on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society, particularly its call to combat gender stereotypes and promote women’s full participation and visibility in public life, including through more inclusive media narratives.
The idea for the network emerged from the “Media and Gender Equality – Shifting Narratives” debate held during the 2024 UfM High-level Conference on Women for the Mediterranean in Nicosia, where journalists from Northern, Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries called for a dedicated space to exchange experiences, resources and good practices.
