Secretary General Ahmad Masa’deh meets Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit in Cairo
Foreign Minister of Egypt Ahmed Aboul Gheit received at his office on 15 September 2010 the UfMS Secretary General Ahmad Masa’deh. During the meeting the two officials exchanged views on the state of play of the Union for the Mediterranean and the future activities of the Secretariat.
Masa’deh briefed the Minister on the work accomplished thus-far at the Secretariat including the presentation of various operational documents required for the work of the Secretariat in the coming months to the 43 partners, as well as activities conducted in the process of establishing the Secretariat including the provision of technical and human resources. The Secretary General thanked Egypt for its leadership within the Union and ongoing support to the UfMS and stressed the key role of Egypt, being one of the Co-Presidents of the UfM, in the advancement of the Union and the promotion of projects and cooperation in the region. Aboul Gheit pledged on his part his country’s full support to the Secretariat.
The UfMS Secretary General also held talks with other senior officials representing the various line ministries in Egypt who presented to him elements of projects that Epypt would like to explore with the Secretariat in the future.
During his visit Ahmad Masa’deh was hosted at the Egyptian National Foreign Affairs Club, the lead diplomatic instituion in Egypt comprising distinguished officials and diplomats where he presented to its members and guests a comprehensive speech marking a vision and roadmap for the success of the UfM in its future endeavours.
