Secretary General of the UfM meets with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and European Affairs of Belgium
On the 6th of May, the Secretary General met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and European Affairs of Belgium, Mr. Didier Reynders.
The Secretary General holds regular visits to the capitals of the UfM Member countries to discuss developments in the region, the work progress of the Secretariat and the engagement of the countries in the UfM projects and presents the latest developments and achievements of the UFMS.
During his meeting with Minister Reynders, the Secretary General thanked the Minister for the active participation of Belgium in the UfM official meetings and projects.
Minister Reynders expressed his full support to the work of the UfM Secretariat and pointed out the need for greater engagement and debate in the EU regarding the Mediterranean and the regional cooperation and integration.
The visit came at an important moment when the Secretariat is launching three new projects this year. The Secretary General of the UfM explained the content and progress of these three projects focused on women entrepreneurship, water governance and logistics.
The Secretary General of the UfM stated that “Belgium is an important partner in the UfM considering the important ties developed with several Mediterranean countries. We have the ambition to work together with Belgium on concrete initiatives with the aim of giving a new boost to regional integration in the Mediterranean”.
