Statement of the UfM Secretariat
The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean expresses its deepest emotion following the tragedy that has once more claimed the lives of hundreds of human beings in the Mediterranean Sea, and extends its condolences to the families of the victims.
The worrying growing dimension of these tragic circumstances calls for reinforced collective action by the international community in order to firmly and rapidly address this humanitarian drama and its root causes.
It also underlines, more than ever, the need for a global and balanced approach, taking into consideration the security and development dimensions of these challenges.
The Secretariat of the UfM stands ready, within the framework of its mission, to join efforts with the international community, and with its partners, in order to further reinforce regional dialogue and strive towards stability and prosperity in the Mediterranean region.
