The implementation of depollution regional and national action plans
Istanbul, 3 December 2013, 1:15 to 2:00 pm
The Programme for the Assessment and Control of Marine Pollution in the Mediterranean Region (UNEP/MAP/ MED POL) and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) will organise a joint conference on: ‘The implementation of depollution regional and national action plans’
The event will be held within the framework of the 18th Ordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols.
Following a number of studies and consultancies coordinated by UNEP/MAP, the UfM Secretariat and European entities during 2013, significant new findings will be presented and discussed during the conference, which will focus on:
- Presenting the 2013 state of progress of the implementation of the depollution Strategic Action Plan (SAP) and National Action Plans (NAPs) in the region, illustrated by three case studies from three countries. In this regard, the UfM Secretariat has developed a list of the necessary projects on ‘depollution investment’ to meet the depollution requirements.
- How to use these results within the next biennium for more in-depth and shared regional and national assessment, towards amending the NAPs to meet the 2025 UNEP/MAP targets.
- Accelerating the implementation of regional scope projects, notably through the selection of flagship projects that the UfM Secretariat will support towards implementation.
