Third meeting of the UfM Climate Change Expert Group
UfM Headquarters, Barcelona, 1-2 October 2015
The third meeting of the UfM Climate Change Expert Group (UfMCCEG) will be held at the premises of the UfM Secretariat, in Barcelona, on 1 and 2 October 2015.
The declaration of the UfM Ministerial Meeting on Environment and Climate Change, held on 13 May 2014, underlined climate change as a priority area of cooperation for the UfM. It stressed the urgency to address climate change due to its close connection with other major regional concerns, such as energy, water scarcity, desertification, food security, overpopulation and resilience to extreme weather events.
In this context, the UfM Climate Change Expert Group (UfMCCEG) has been created to act as a regional platform, showcasing how a complex system of relevant initiatives, programmes and structures may be brought together in order to create synergies while including stakeholders, the private sector and various levels of governance. Its aim is to enhance regional dialogue and catalyse the identification, support and development of specific projects and initiatives, both in mitigation and adaptation.
This third UfMCCEG meeting will gather UfM national focal points as well as representatives from stakeholders and civil society. It will focus mainly on adaptation, including, inter alia, related action framework and policies, costal urban development aspects, cooperation on civil protection, the sharing of scientific research and knowledge. It will be as well the occasion to discuss the work to be developed next year within the UfMCCEG.
