UfM Regional Electricity Markets Platform

The Mediterranean region faces significant energy challenges: increasing population of over 500 million inhabitants with growing energy demands; warming 20% faster than the global average; intensive industrialization and tourism growth putting pressure on available energy resources. In view of turning these challenges into opportunities, the UfM established three UfM Energy Platforms.

The UfM REM Platform aims at the progressive integration of energy systems and energy markets in the UfM region and, in particular, at the enhancement of electricity exchanges and interconnections, in order to achieve a secure, affordable and sustainable electricity supply for the benefit of citizens and economies in the Euro-Mediterranean region. The UfM ensures the secretariat of the platform, in close coordination with the UfM Co‑Presidency. MEDREG (Mediterranean Energy Regulators) and Med-TSO (Mediterranean Transmission System Operators) are key contributors to the work of the platform.
